Mashego nets a brace as Bucs rout Juventus

Posted on Wednesday, March 10, 2010 - 14:04

Orlando Pirates striker Katlego Mashego scored two goals in their practice match against Vodacom League campaigners Sasolburg Juventus at the Johannesburg Stadium yesterday.

The Buccaneers were in action on Tuesday afternoon and all seems fine as far as preparations for the Telkom Knockout clash against Bloemfontein Celtic is concerned.

The home side was in an unforgiving mood yesterday as they trounced the hapless Sasolburg Juventus side 8-1.

Malawian international Josephy Kamwendo opened the scoring with less than ten minutes on the clock, before Mduduzi Nyanda added the second to give Bucs a comfortable 2-0 lead before the interval.

The flood gates opened in the second half with Pirates launching a foray of attacks, making it almost impossible for the opposition to withstand the onslaught.

Mahoota, as Mashego is known was a constant thorn in the Juventus defence and he was duly rewarded for his efforts with a brace in the second half.

Nyanda – a product of the development academy, marked his name on the score sheet for the second time in the game with a clinically taken shot to complete a well constructed goal following a series of neat passes.

With the score board reading 5-0 to the home side, the Buccaneers continued to apply more pressure on their visitors and it wasn’t a surprise when they went further ahead through the boot of Dikgang Mabalane, and an own goal from a Juventus defender.

Bennett Chenene stretched Bucs’ lead to seven with an individual effort after dribbling his way past two defenders before picking his spot to leave the defeated goalkeeper sprawled on the turf.

Ndumiso Mabena added the eighth and final goal for Krol’s charges, before the visitors scored a consolation goal in the dying minutes of the match.

Final Score 8-1 to Pirates.
